I wish I was 11 again. It would great to be that age again where a bunch of broken logs in a small patch of woods behind your house could become a castle in England during the days of King Arthur or the Alamo in old Texas. it would be so great to be able to have an imagination that could take you away to wherever your mind could create and not be tied down to the reality of the world we live in. Sometimes, I realize while daydreaming that it used to be so fun to imagine so many different adventures. But then the train stops and I am on my way to the office and leave imagination on the train.

My greatest goal these days is to try to not be such a homebody and to get and see more of the world. I realize not at 50 years old that there is so much more out there to experience and see. New people and places to visit and get to know are out there, if you just make the effort. All I can think about is where my wife and I will visit next, whether it’s India or down the shore in New Jersey. Hopefully, I will have the chance and look forward to both the planning and the journey because that is what life is truly all about.

Five years ago I was married and became a husband and a stepfather. Both incredibly hard new “jobs” with rules and responsibilities I really wasn’t aware of existing. I know that I tried way to hard to be a parent to my stepchildren without really realizing that they already had two loving parents. It was not my place to worry about them finishing dinner and cleaning their rooms. I should have been spending more time learning about them and their lives and what them special people. So, it was a hard five years at times but in the long run we all learned how to deal with each other and are so much happier for it.
